Everybody has them. You know, those days where you just want to curl up in your pyjamas, slurp a cup of tea and forget to brush your hair. Some companies even offer ‘duvet days’ to their employees so you can do just that. But if you are attending an interview or just attending a normal day at work, you should try and avoid the ‘just got out of bed’ look and instead opt for something more professional.
Just like when you send out your CV template, you need to ensure you are well prepared and professional when it comes to dressing for work. Some offices offer regularly dress down days and in these cases rules can be bent. But if you are struggling with what to wear to work on a normal working day, then check out our tips below on what you should avoid;
Don’t Show Too Much Flesh
Even if it’s scorching outside, you should try and avoid showing off too much flesh. It can come across as inappropriate and casual. Instead, try and go for something that both covers up and also won’t make you too hot – like chiffon or short sleeved shirts.
Don’t Wear the Same Thing Twice
This doesn’t necessarily apply to a week – after all, who can afford to wear a new outfit every day of the month? But try and avoid wearing the same outfit two days in a row. Instead mix it up so you look different every day as this will help you to appear fresh and fashionable.
Don’t Be Scruffy
Polo shirts, trainers and flip flops are all inappropriate for the office (unless your company allows it). Ensure that ‘smart casual’ doesn’t become ‘casual’.
Don’t Forget to Iron
Shirts that have huge creases in can be easily noticed, especially if you are attending a meeting. Ensure that you iron all your work outfits the night before so you are prepared.
