How to Have a Stress-Free Commute

commuteCommuting can be extremely stressful. Sometimes you may find yourself standing under someone’s sweaty armpit on a tube or stuck in stand-still traffic on the motorway. But don’t despair – check out our tips below to a stress-free commute and ensure you turn up to work or a job interview looking and feeling your best.

Allow Plenty of Time

This may be obvious but you add more stress to your journey if you leave late. Whilst a lay-in sounds appealing when you set your alarm; you’ll regret it once you’re rushing out of the door in the morning. Try setting your alarm half an hour earlier and use the extra time to ‘snooze’. You then feel like you’ve had a bit of a lay-in but you’re still on schedule.

Breakfast

It’s hailed as the ‘most important meal of the day’ and it’s true. Skipping breakfast can make you stressed out on your commute as you will probably be left feeling hungry and finding it difficult to concentrate. Allow plenty of time for a hearty breakfast!

Water
Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. You don’t want to be stuck on the train or in your car feeling dehydrated.

Relax

Whatever relaxes you – whether it’s reading or listening to music – ensure you take some form of entertainment with you to help you chill out. It will give you a good chance to de-stress before you enter the office.

Wear the Right Outfit

If you’ve got a lot of walking to do, don’t stress yourself out by wearing inappropriate footwear. If you have a meeting and are carrying lots of meeting props – don’t struggle with them in a carrier bag! Instead prepare for your commute by wearing the right outfit, carrying a sturdy bag and making your commute as easy as possible.
