A new report has revealed that unemployment in the UK has fallen by 57,000.
The latest report by the Office for National Statistics shows the unemployment figure dropping during the first three months to May 2013. The number of people currently unemployed in the UK is now 2.51 million.
The fall in unemployment has seen less people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance too. The original forecast predicted a fall by 8,000 however 21,200 less people claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance in the lead up to May, with the figure falling to 1.48 million. The report shows a dramatic decrease in the number of people claiming and figures are much more than originally predicted.
The number of people now employed in the UK has also increase to 29.7 million however some figures suggest that long-term unemployment is still a concern in the UK. Over 400,000 people have been unemployed for two years or more.
The unemployment rate in the UK has remained fairly stagnant and is currently 7.8%.
