A recent report has detailed how two UK employers intend to make redundancies and have hinted that this could be an effect of the digital age.
British Gas has announced it plans to close a Call Centre in Southampton which could leave over 500 people unemployed. The move is apparently down to cutting costs, with British Gas stating that many of their customers contact them digitally.
Although some staff may be saved and transferred to an alternative branch, it’s evident that more consumers are getting online to contact and are not picking up the phone. It has been suggested the reliance on digital communication could be a factor in the job losses.
Computer Sciences Corporation is also allegedly considering redundancies due to a change in the market.
